From April 14 to 18, 2026, leaders from across the Uganda–Sudan–South Sudan Annual Conference gathered at Bliss Hotel in Nansana for a transformative Discipleship Training Workshop under the theme “Rooted in Christ, Growing in Discipleship.” District discipleship coordinators, district Sunday school teachers, youth president in Uganda-Sudan-South Sudan Annual conference, Younger adult people’s connection network, from the Annual Conference came together with a shared commitment to deepen their understanding of what it means to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. The workshop created a sacred space where learning, worship, and fellowship blended into a unified journey of spiritual renewal and leadership formation.
Each day was intentionally shaped by prayer, Scripture, and reflection, grounding participants in the truth that discipleship begins with a personal relationship with Christ. Facilitators guided leaders to see discipleship not as a program, but as a lifestyle rooted in obedience, transformation, and mission. Teachings from leaders such as Rev. John Ssemakula emphasized evangelism and community engagement, calling participants to embody Christ’s love in their local contexts. Similarly, Rev. Kennedy Mwita challenged leaders to view integrity, financial accountability, and responsible citizenship as essential spiritual disciplines that shape authentic discipleship.
The workshop further explored practical dimensions of nurturing disciples across all age groups and contexts. Rev. John Bamugemereire highlighted the importance of effective Sunday school structures for children and youth, alongside safeguarding and protection policies that create safe spaces for spiritual growth. Raising Mighty expanded the vision by presenting discipleship within a resilient and connectional Methodist tradition, encouraging leaders to remain steadfast amid changing contexts. Meanwhile, Prof. Rev. Dr. George Okumu Achar enriched the conversation through teachings on worship and liturgy, helping participants appreciate how African expressions of faith can deepen discipleship within the United Methodist tradition.
As the workshop concluded, participants were commissioned by The Resident Bishop of The East Africa Episcopal Area Daniel Wandabula to return to their communities as intentional disciple-makers. Strengthened by shared experiences, prayer, and practical insights, they embraced the call to nurture spiritual growth in their congregations and beyond. The gathering reinforced a clear message: discipleship is a continuous journey of being rooted in Christ, growing in faith, and actively participating in God’s mission. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, these leaders now step forward as agents of transformation, committed to building vibrant, Christ-centered communities that bear lasting fruit.
