Bishop Daniel Wandabula, the resident Bishop of the East Africa Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church, officially opened the 7th session of the Burundi Annual Conference under the theme, “Stand Still and Know That I Am God” (Psalms 46:1-10). The event, held in Bujumbura, brought together clergy, lay leaders, and congregants from across the region.
In his address, Bishop Wandabula congratulated the members of the Burundi Annual Conference on their significant milestone of becoming an Episcopal Area. He highlighted the importance of this achievement in the broader context of the church’s mission and growth in the region.
“Your elevation to an Episcopal Area is a testament to your dedication, faith, and hard work,” Bishop Wandabula stated. “As we stand together under the theme ‘Stand Still and Know That I Am God,’ let us remember the strength and reassurance that comes from our faith, especially in times of uncertainty and challenge.” He thanked them for the support and commitment to the church and for voting him into service. Wandabula promised to work with the next Bishop and also assured the congregation of his presence during the inauguration of the incoming bishop.
The Bishop also urged the conference members to prepare diligently for their upcoming bishop nominations which will be held later today and elections, which are scheduled for next year. “The process of nominating and electing a bishop is a sacred responsibility,” he emphasized. “It requires prayerful consideration, unity, and a collective vision for the future of our church in Burundi.”
Bishop Wandabula’s remarks were met with enthusiastic applause and a renewed sense of purpose among the attendees. The session included various presentations and discussions focused on the theme, aimed at strengthening the spiritual foundation and organizational capacity of the conference.
As the Burundi Annual Conference embarks on this new chapter, the members are poised to continue their mission with renewed vigor and faith. The upcoming nominations and elections will be a crucial step in shaping the leadership and direction of the church in the coming years.
The 7th session of the Burundi Annual Conference is set to continue over the next few days, featuring workshops, worship services, and strategic planning sessions designed to equip the participants with the tools and inspiration needed to advance their ministry
