Bishop Daniel Wandabula

Serving as Episcopal Leader of the East Africa Episcopal Area of the United Methodist Church.

Daniel Wandabula serves as the Episcopal leader of the East Africa Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church, overseeing four annual conferences: Burundi Annual Conference, Kenya-Ethiopia Annual Conference, Rwanda Provisional Conference, Uganda-South Sudan Annual Conference.

Election:

Bishop Wandabula was elected into office on May 27, 2006, at a special session of the Africa Central Conference held on the campus of Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe. This election filled the position vacated after the death of Bishop Alfred Ndoricimpa in 2005. In the Africa Central Conference, bishops are typically elected to a four-year term with the possibility of re-election. However, instead of calling another special election in 2010, the Africa Central Conference re-elected Bishop Wandabula for life on August 17, 2012, during a session at the Methodist Guest House in Nairobi, Kenya.

 

Educational Background:

Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies degrees from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Personal Background:

  • Born in Jinja town, Uganda, East Africa, and raised in a devoted Methodist Christian home.
  • Married to Betty Wandabula, with whom he has six children.
  • Ordained an elder in the Methodist tradition in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1994 by Bishop Zablon Nthamburi.

  • Initiated Church Healthy Ministries, a faith-based mobile clinic providing outreach to needy communities and HIV/AIDS patients, promoting positive living and community support. Bishop Wandabula has been instrumental in the growth and development of the United Methodist Church in East Africa. He is known for his efforts to promote peace, social justice, and community development, addressing issues such as poverty, education, and health. His leadership has facilitated the expansion of the church’s mission in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.
